Parov Stelar
In the mid 00s, when most people knew little about the origins of jazz as dance music, Parov Stelar contributed to the invention of the style which reminded everyone that jazz and dancing are meant for each other. His secret: a style which was quickly called electro swing, combining bouncy beats that make the entire world move with samples from another time, which are perfectly complementary and evoke the voices of the great singers of the past and the exultant jazz of the early decades. This irresistible sound in the spirit of the times spoke to all generations and became a global phenomenon. Very few artists can boast about having popularized swing sounds as much as Parov Stelar. With a few others, he was propelled on the loudspeakers and dance floors around the world thanks to those musical tones.
At the beginning of this millennium, the fleeting successes came one after another at a stupefying pace, but this artist managed to carry on and reinvent himself. For example, he took the risk of mixing in different instrumental and vocal ensembles, connecting instrumental jazz, DJ’ing art and electro club culture. The artist who will perform on the Théâtre Antique’s stage will be using the best of both worlds: the experience of a star who has transcended the ages and this yearning to act as if everything needs to be always renewed, as long as the public follows him on the dance floor.
Gallowstreet
Peter Keijsers on the sousaphone, Jeroen Verberne and Odei Al-Magut on the trombone, Lucas van Ee on the tenor saxophone and the synth, Dirk Zandvliet on the baritone saxophone and the transverse flute, Dima Loginov and Luc Janssens on the trumpet, and not to mention Colin Vermeulen on drums: the Dutch band Gallowstreet is a brass band like no other whose fiery stage performances have gone far beyond the borders of their own country for several years now. Their first eponymous EP was released ten years ago by the Kindred Spirits label of DJ and party organizer KC The Funkaholictheir, a leading figure of the mythical club Paradiso in Amsterdam. It allowed them to be quickly noticed by experts and become popular with a public in their image: young and enthusiastic. Between 2016 and 2024, they brought out four albums all equally successful. Their last one called A Trip Worth Making is a tour de force filled with contagious groovy sounds high in brass instruments. Influenced by rock, dance and jazz, their positive energy is the result of 10 years of sound innovations. There is no doubt that their grand premiere at Jazz à Vienne will start with a flourish.
