In its commitment to placing jazz centre stage, Jazz à Vienne has partnered with the Heavenly Sweetness label to retrace the past 40 years of concerts with an eye towards the future. ‘Past & Future’ is a dual album seeking to bring together both yesterday’s great and tomorrow’s future artists. The aim is to tell history to better build the future, to call on the paragons of jazz to shine a light onto the latest musical trends led by the new generation.
The first collection comprises 7 extracts from historic Jazz à Vienne concerts since 1981: Gilberto Gil (live 1998), Roy Hargrove–The RH Factor (live 2009), Aldo Romano, Louis Sclavis, Henri Texier (live 2000), McCoy Tyner Sextet (live 2005), Lalo Schifrin (live 1999), The Milt Jackson & Hank Jones All Star Quartet (live 1997) & La Banda de Santiago de Cuba (live 2003).
The second collection offers an alternative vision of jazz through 7 tracks recorded especially for the occasion by 7 young, hand-selected bands: Léon Phal, Ishkero, Gin Tonic Orchestra, Emile Londonien, Arnaud Dolmen, Abraham Réunion & Jasual Cazz.
