Jamie Cullum
Jamie Cullum conveys the British charm without the strict three-piece suit. We remember how relaxed he was when he turned up in the jazz universe, in his 20s (Twentysomething is the title of his first album by Universal which sold more that two million copies!), like a happy cannonball. Since then, he has never stopped impressing and marvelling us, but also taking us with him, in his energising reinterpretation of the Great American Songbook, with his cover versions of worldwide hits and his compositions, which are as good as pop leaders’ works. Stunning and attracting, Jamie Cullum is a pop singer and a jazz pianist, with a rock star presence. His albums are inspiring, while his energy and his simplicity on stage are astounding. Lovely, dynamic and generous, Jamie Cullum is a very gifted and eclectic musician who started with listening Nirvana before setting his heart on jazz. This virtuoso replaced the guitar for the piano. For years, he has been hosting a BBC show during which he shares music which resembles him: great classics or a very contemporary jazz, in a joyful mix of styles, erudition and togetherness. He offers the same on stage, where he rarely performs: another reason not to miss him!
Dominique Fils-Aimé
Since jazz is the musical genre offering her the greatest artistic freedom, the singer-songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimé has eventually accepted to use this label to describe her unclassifiable music enriched by gospel and soul influences. Discovered by the Canadian version of “The Voice”, the Quebecker of Haitian origin quickly took a unique path, thanks to which she earned recognition from her peers (two Juno Awards, the highest distinction of the Canadian music industry) and from a public captured on both sides of the Atlantic. After a trilogy dedicated to her Afro-American musical influences, her last album Our Roots Run Deep invites us to go back to plant, tree, but also human roots. “Just as we can’t see the root system allowing the trees in a forest to communicate between themselves, I think that our souls proceed in the same way and that music can be a fertilizer for this invisible communication network." The purity of her voice immerses you in an intimate conversation with only one double bass, while the different sound layers in her powerful soul music, song after song, will make you dance in the tiered seating of the Théâtre Antique!
